WEB DEVELOPMENT

Tim Berners Lee developed markup language for developing documents for the Internet in 1990s. This special language is known as HyperText Markup Language (HTML). This is simply a markup language that is used to prepare documents for presenting information in the Internet. The document of information in the Internet is known as HTML document or web page. So, HTML is a markup language that is used for developing web pages or HTML documents. It is not the programming language like QBASIC, C++ and Java. HTML uses markup symbols or tags (codes) that describe format and layout of text, image, movie clips etc. in a web page. You can prepare HTML documents using any text editor like Notepad ,Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamwaver, Micromedia Flash, NetBeans etc. are available for preparing web pages.
Some Important Terms Used In Web

Web page
A web page is the collection of information formatted with HTML tags. A web page is also known as HTML document. Information in a web page is presented by using different media like text, images, audio, video, animations and hyperlinks. A web site may have many web pages and these web pages are the interlinked pages of the web site.

Web Site
A Web Site contains the information about some particulars topics or subjects. A Web site may be of government office, organization, university, private company or personal to provide information regarding them. These web sites can have many pages of information, just like a book has many pages of information. These pages are interlinked with each others. So, a Web site is a collection of interlinked web pages of a government office, organization, university, private company or personal to provide information regarding them. Each web site is identified by the Internet address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator). A uniform Resource Locator contains the components that specify the protocol, server name and pathname of an item. A typical URL is look like below: http://www.hamrodiary.com Some popular web sites are www.facebook.com, www.onlinekhabar.com, www.twitter.com, www.yahoo.com, www.ntc.net.np etc.

Web Server
A web server is a sever computer that hosts the websites. It provides pages of a web site to the requested users. When a client computer using a web browser requests a web site of a web server, the web server provides the web pages of the web site through the web browser.

World Wide Web (WWW)
The World Wide Web (WWW) is the interlinked collection of information available on the Internet. It is also known as Web. The information on the web is presented in the form of web pages. The pages are stored in web servers which provide the web pages on the request of the client computers. So, the WWW is the collection of web servers. To access the web pages of a server, a client computer has to use a HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

HyperText Transfer Protocol
HTTP is the protocol that is used by the client computers and the web servers in order to communicate with each other. The HTTP is responsible for sending a request of client through a web browser to a web server and transferring the requested document to the client computer via the web browser. When the web browser of the client computer sends request for a HTML document using HTTP to a web server computer, the web server retrieves the requested page and sends to the client computer where you see the formatted document.

Web Browser
A web browser is a program that displays web pages of a web site on the user computer. The receiving the web pages of a web site on the client computer is known as downloading. But to see web pages which are on your computer you do not need to connect to the internet. Windows Internet Explorer, Google Chrome,Netscape Navigator, Opera, FireFox etc are some popular web browsers.

Introduction and Basic Structure of HTML document
HTML is a language used to develop web pages. Hypertext means a special text that works as a link and markup means way of writing layout information within document. Creating and Saving a Web page You can use any text editor like Notepad or Textpad to prepare a HTML document. When you finish your work, you need to save a document with .HTM or .HTML as an extension. The prepared web pages can be viewed on any web browser.

A web page is a file containing web information.The collection of web pages is known as web or world wide web.With the goal of sharing information throughtout the world CERN(Center European Research Nuclear), a center for high energy Physics in Geneva, Switzerland , developed a technology known as World Wide Web(WWW) or Web.


Save the above contents as ‘myfirstpage.html’.

Opening HTML documents

Web pages can be viewed in the web browser. When a web page is viewed in the web browser, it displays only the actual formatted information i.e. without the tags and attributes. To view a web page, follow these steps.
1. Open the Internet Explorer by double clicking on the Internet Explorer icon.
2. Click on the File menu and choose Open command. The Open dialog box appears on the screen.
3. Click on Browse button.
4. Select a web page which you want to view on the Internet Explorer from the specified location. For example, select ‘myfirstpage.html’.
5. Click on Open button. The Open dialog box reappears with the path of the file that is to be opened.
6. Click on OK button. In a web browser you will see the web page as below.

HTML Line breaks:
Use the
tag if you want a line break (a new line) without starting a new paragraph. It is empty html tag . it is no end tag.
