Computer Science Syllabus for Grade 9

Chapters and brief description:
1. Introduction to Computer
A computer is an electronic programmable device that accepts data and instructions, processes them according to instructions and produces output as information which gives a meaningful result…..

2. Computer System
A computer system is made up of computer hardware and software. Computer hardware and software work together to perform the tasks given by the user.

3. Computer Hardware
The physical components of a computer are known as computer hardware.

4. Input Output Devices
Input devices are the computer peripherals used to transfer data and instructions in the human understandable form into the computer….

5. Number System
A number system enables us to understand the manner in which we use numbers. Mathematicians have developed different types of number systems to represent values. The different number systems are Decimal Number System, Binary Number System ,Octal Number System and  Hexadecimal Number System….

6. Computer Software

7. Open Source Software
Open Source Software, also called Free Software for users because they can use them freely and run the program for any purpose, to study and modify the program, and to redistribute copies of either the original or modified program …

8. Computer Programming Language
A programming language provides a way of giving instructions to the computer.

9. Impact of The Computer In Society
Computer is one of the wonderful inventions in the field of electronic devices. Nowadays, computers are used in almost all the sectors.

10. Information Technology Policy Of Nepal

11. Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS - DOS)

MS-DOS is a disk based single user single task operating system. It was developed by Microsoft Corporation in February, 1981. It was designed for both IBM PCs and IBM compatible PCs.

12. Windows Operating System
Windows operating system is the single user multiple tasks operating system. It was introduced by Microsoft Corporation, USA.

13. HTML
HTML is a markup language that is used for developing web pages or HTML documents. It is not the programming language like Q-BASIC, C, C++ and Java. HTML uses markup symbols or tags (codes) that describe format and layout of text, image, movie clips etc. in a web page.

14. Program Development Cycle

15. Introduction to QBASIC
QBASIC is a high level programming language developed by Microsoft Corporation for the microcomputers in 1985. It uses a set of keywords and mathematical symbols to write programs. It is also called an Interpreter.

16. Elements of QBASIC
The elements required to construct a QBASIC program consists of a characters set, keywords, constants, variables, operators and expressions.

17. QBASIC Statements
A QBASIC statement is a keyword that is used for writing the instruction of a program. Each line of instruction in a QBASIC needs to start with a QBASIC statement i.e. keyword. So, statements are instructions within a program.  A QBASIC statement can be executable or non-executable statement.

18. Program Flow And Control Structure
There are three basic control structures used in the construction of a program. They are Sequential Structure, Selection (Decision) Structure Repetition (Loop) Structure

19. Library Function in QBASIC
A function in QBASIC is a readymade program or user made small program which helps us to perform a specific task. The function manipulates the data passes to it and returns either a string value or a numeric value.  QBASIC supports two different kinds of functions are User Defined Function and Library Function

20. Arrays In QBASIC
An array is a data structure or special variable that stores more than one similar type of data within a common name but having different subscript numbers.
